Joint Statement of Student Organizations from around the Country [Iran]:
We call for protest rallies to be held immediately outside the country in support of Sharifeh Mohammadi, Pakhshan Azizi, Nasim Gholami Simiyari, Varisheh Moradi, and we must increase the pressure against the Islamic Republic by advancing the protests nationwide! ...
Over the past few days and weeks, the Islamic Republic [IRI] has issued death sentences to two female political prisoners, Sharifeh Mohammadi and Pakhshan Azizi, on trumped-up charges of “Baghi” (armed struggle against Islamic rule). In addition, the same charge has been brought against Nasim Gholami Simiyari and Varisheh Moradi which could lead to the issuance of the death penalty for them. This approach by the [IRI] represents a different level of repression that casts the shadow of execution over all activists who are standing up to the inhumane and deplorable conditions that have been imposed on Iranian society.
We have had the positive experience of resisting the death penalty for our dear Toomaj [Salehi], which was overturned due to the pressure of our protests inside and outside the country. We have the experience of many struggles and resistance together in the streets of the world — with groups, rebels, activists, organizations, institutions, political parties and organizations of the people, and the presence of freedom-loving Iranians — we have seen how this put pressure on the [IRI] government, and has further emboldened the struggle.
Therefore, it is necessary to maintain this nationwide pressure and protest and continue to beat the drum of the "Woman, Life, Freedom" revolution and scratch the ears of the reactionaries and executioners. We must not allow the Islamic Republic to carry out, expand and normalize its campaign of deliberate, orchestrated murder to eliminate political dissent. This attack by the Islamic Republic of Iran [IRI] targeting activists in the women’s rights protest movement is a continuation of its #WarAgainstWomen and its war against the entire society of Iran.
We must also firmly declare that we will carry forward the struggle and protests of this “Woman, Life, Freedom” revolution against this anti-women, anti-life and anti-freedom IRI regime by organizing wider and more extensive protests and gatherings both inside and outside the country.
This is why we call on all who participated in the "Woman, Life, Freedom" revolution, all freedom-seekers, human rights organizations, political parties and groups to stand against the Islamic Republic and defend Sharifeh Mohammadi, Pakhshan Azizi, Nasim Gholami Simiyari, Varisheh Moradi, and other death row prisoners and come into the streets worldwide and hold protest rallies in their cities on Saturday, August 10 or Sunday, August 11.
With revolutionary determination, we shout along with the women activists in Evin Prison, we “Stand and Stay United” until the abolition of the death penalty, until the end of gender apartheid, until the overthrow of the IRI regime and the victory of the "Woman, Life, Freedom" revolution.
Miles Solay “I’m here with Toomaj Salehi” at Mural in Cali, Colombia
Last week Miles Solay of the revolutionary band Outernational was in Colombia for a @CallejerasMusica street music performance in Bogotá, which included the performance of “Free Women.” On July 31, he posted this video which he recorded in front of the spectacular street mural in Cali, Colombia, created by quemarlajaula.
One of the hundreds of comments the post received was this one, in Farsi: “Thank you for not being indifferent from the other side of the world. Music is the language of all the people in the world, and through this, we can express the pain in the world, the reaction to which will bring global peace and tranquility to the people of the world.”
